Bringing Colour to Life - Photoshop CS
I personally hate how some pictures are naturally a little dull and lack depth, so following this tutorial, I was able to bring a few icons to life. This is super, super simple.

Going from this to

1. First, open the image you want to use. I highly suggest something that isn't very vibrant. Crop. Sharpen once and fade (Edit >> fade sharpen) to about 50%, depending on the quality of your picture.

2. The rest is all curves. Go to Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Curves. Use the following settings:

Lazy? Download the Curves file!
===================
Red----
1st Point-
Input: 151
Output: 167

2nd Point-
Input: 109
Output: 98

Green------
1st Point-
Input: 148
Output: 154

2nd Point-
Input: 91
Output: 96

Blue------
1st Point-
Input: 135
Output: 132

2nd Point-
Input: 94
Output: 84
===================

After you've done that and clicked OK, duplicate the curves layer (ctrl + J).. And set this new curves layer to Saturation.

done. See how easy that was?!

The same exact effect on other icons:

Are you using photoshop? Assuming you are.. after you've downloaded the curves file, go to Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Curves. Once that opens, click "Load" and find the tutorialcurves file. Click OK.

As for the greyish thing.. Make sure your image is set to RGB and maybe try boosting it to 16 bit. (Image >> Mode >> 16 Bit and Image >> Mode >> RGB color)

Yeah, the actual curves file is for Photoshop.

But I'm actually pretty sure that the curves will still work in PSP. I tried. I didn't do anything with the RGB channel on this tutorial. Just red, green, and blue. :)

I'm sort of a newbie to photoshop, so I was okay with the first point on the curves but I don't know how to do a second point.. I was hoping you could help out. Or if it's easier, could upload the curves file again? Thank you so much :)

I re-uploaded the curves file. :)

But anywho, for this tutorial.. the "first point" is when I would click somewhere towards the mid-top right.. After making all the adjustments there (with input and output), I would click somewhere towards the middle/ bottom left.. which creates a "second point". :]

Love the username BTW =)
